PNY GTX 660 Ti Review

Mac OS X supports the majority of Nvidia and AMD GPU’s. Then there are so many brands offering the same cards. So how to choose which card to purchase and which brand? Another thing to consider is what you plan to do with you system and what you may want to do with your system latter on. Most users do not need raw GPU power which brings up to the PNY GTX 660 Ti. The GTX 660 Ti brings low cost and high end performance together. At a price of $229.99 (After MIR) this card can fit into any users budget.

With the AMD 7xxx Series  drives having white screen issues under Hackintoshes it makes it quite apparent that the latest AMD offering are not ready for main stream users. That said we look to Nvidia to fill the needs of everyday users.

PNY is selling a GTX 660 Ti (VCGGTX660TXPB) reference card at almost the same price point as other manufactures are selling there non Ti GTX 660 at. PNY has been offering Nvidia GPU’s for several years and are a reputable manufacture.

The specs of the GTX 660 Ti are very comparable to the GTX 670 which is only slightly faster at $150 more the the PNY GTX 660 Ti offering:

Under Mac OS X the cards works perfectly OOB. Also if users need HDMI audio all what is needed is a simple DSDT edit to do so. The card also supports up to 4 monitors making this card perfect for multi monitor users. Last the card has a recommended power supply requirement of 450 Watts which means that a large power supply will not be needed in the system. Last Nvidia releases retail drivers about mid-way threw a DOT release that address various bugs and issues which add to the stability of the system under Mac OS X.

In conclusion, with the stability of the drivers and the price point of this card, for a entry level card look no further then PNY’s GTX 660 Ti for your Hackintosh.
